Ashton-In-Makerfield

Ashton-in-Makerfield is known as historically a part of Lancashire and a town in the borough of Wigan and it is located approximately 4 miles south of Wigan Town centre.
With links to its historical past some may know the town as a coal mining district. Many of the renowned rows of terraces you find there were built in the 1800’s specifically for the mining workers whom made a significant impact on the industry for Britain along with cotton mills, potteries and the production and manufacture of hinges, locks and files which adds to the busy, industrial feel of the town.

Wigan

Wigan borough covers an area of 77 square miles, has a population of over 320,000 and is the 9th largest metropolitan borough, out of 36, in England. The borough is the most north western in Greater Manchester. Within Greater Manchester, it borders the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton to the north-east and east, and the City of Salford to the east. Outside Greater Manchester, in the south it borders Warrington (a unitary authority in Cheshire); to the south-west it borders the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens in Merseyside. To the west it borders the West Lancashire borough, and to the north it borders the Chorley borough, both in Lancashire.

St Helens

Located midway between Liverpool and Manchester, St Helens is a good base from which to explore the whole of the North West and beyond. The biggest St Helens attraction in every sense is Dream – the iconic 20-metre high internationally significant artwork by artist Jaume Plensa, situated on top of Sutton Manor overlooking the M62.

Warrington

The pleasant town of Warrington is located in Cheshire on the banks of the River Mersey. It’s always been a busy town because of its position on the river, and has been ever since it was founded in the Romans era. The town has seen its fair share of history; the walls of the parish church are pit-marked with dents from civil war cannons. Plus, Oliver Cromwell was said to have stayed near the town centre during the war. Warrington is now a bustling new town that boasts a number of attractions and sites.
